How to Apply for TANF in Utah
Utah doesn't call its cash aid program TANF in public materials — it's the Family Employment Program (FEP), run by the Department of Workforce Services rather than a traditional welfare office, and every applicant is assigned both an eligibility worker and a separate employment counselor. FEP caps lifetime support at 36 months per family, well short of the federal 60-month limit, and folds in a licensed clinical therapist at each employment center as an optional support resource.

Apply online through myCase
Submit your application at jobs.utah.gov/mycase (myCase), the same portal DWS uses for SNAP, Medicaid, and child care assistance.

Visit your nearest DWS Employment Center (find one through the online Office Map), or call 801-526-0950 locally or 1-866-435-7414 toll-free to have a paper application mailed to you.

Submit by mail or fax if needed

Return verification documents within 10 days

Get assigned an eligibility worker and employment counselor
The eligibility worker determines your FEP, SNAP, and medical eligibility, while a separate employment counselor works with you on the job-focused requirements of the program.

Cooperate with child support (Office of Recovery Services)
FEP requires working with the Office of Recovery Services to pursue child support, either via a paper application at your local office or online at ors.utah.gov; let your counselor know if you have safety concerns about this step.
