How to Apply for TANF in Oregon

Oregon's TANF cash benefit doubles as more than just monthly support: on top of the regular payment, the state sends a clothing allowance of up to $270 a year to your EBT card, deposited in May, August, and November as long as you stay eligible. Applications go through the same ONE (ONE.Oregon.gov) system used for SNAP and the Oregon Health Plan, so applying for TANF lets you apply for those benefits at the same time.

   Check basic eligibility

   You must live in Oregon, have little or no income and very few resources, and be the parent or caregiver of a child 18 or younger, be pregnant, or be 18 or younger and heading your own household.

   Apply online, by phone, or in person

   Submit your application through the ONE system at benefits.oregon.gov, by calling, or by visiting a local Department of Human Services office. Applying here also lets you apply for SNAP and the Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) at the same time.

   Complete an interview

   After you apply, a caseworker will reach out to schedule an interview to go over your application, which you can do in person or over the phone.

   Get your EBT card and start the JOBS program

   If approved, you'll get an Oregon Trail EBT card in the mail, and most participants also need to join the JOBS program to work toward employment and other support services.

   Renew on time and report changes

   You'll get a renewal packet or notice about 45 days before your benefits are due to renew, and you must report changes in your household or income when they happen.
